The Daylight Duster is Coming In Fast!
When we started Daylight 10 years ago, the quest was to build the world’s finest elite level BMX Flying Machine. This time out, we’re looking to do it again — but now, instead of focusing on the pro-sized bikes, we’ve aimed our sights on making the raddest pint-sized Daylights ever. We don’t just build “kid bikes”; we build world-class race machines for the next generation. And this Summer, those crazy BMX kids won’t be able to keep their hands and butts off of them!
Low, Tight, and Ready for Flight – Like our speedy “paisano” on the run, the all-new Duster is low and tight for today’s narrower crank setups. We engineered the Duster with a tighter Q-factor so our smallest riders aren’t “duck-walking” their pedals, but driving straight, efficient power into the dirt. Built from 6061-T6 aluminum, the Duster delivers that explosive “Snap” out of the gate while staying agile.
It comes fully equipped with precision V-brake mounts, traditional dropouts boasting a full inch of adjustment, and a recessed slot with security washers to keep your young racer’s back wheel locked safely in place. And for those riders looking to evolve? There will be an option for an integrated disc brake mount!
Sun-Washed Style & Factory Precision – At Daylight, it’s all about functional art. The Duster brings our latest tech in 15 powder-coated color-ways that recall sun-washed summer days at your local track. Hand-finished right here in Southern California, every frame is a masterpiece designed for the factory pits. It even features the rear-triangle clearance needed to accommodate today’s wider high-profile carbon rims and up to 1-3/8″ tires.

PROPRIETARY TEAR DROP TUBING
Duster frames use two slightly different tear drop profiles for the top and down tubes — a modern geometry and lower center of gravity that is in perfect alignment with today’s advanced rider skills and more technical tracks. The tear drop shapes provide slighly more vertical rigidity and allow for a more robust head tube intersection. The overlapping of the top and down tube adds strength without adding gussets. You’ll find the signature Daylight overlapping tubes throughout our Duster line. Yes, it does take longer to build and costs more than the standard round tube alloy frames, but it’s worth the effort and it rides as good as it looks.
DIME STACKED DAYLIGHT WELDS
This is truly a dying art form in the bike world, but at Daylight we continue to demand hand built perfection. No ground smooth welds or thick paint to hide our process as our thin ceramic coatings reveal one precision dime stacked weld after another. Even more critical is what’s beneath those welds — less than 1mm of gap between tube junctions for unmatched strength that also builds unwavering confidence.
MACHINED VERTICAL DROP-OUT SYSTEM
Experience the Duster’s vertical sliding drop-outs on the track and in your workshop and you’ll never go back to a horizontal slot rear drop-out. Other frames responded with fixed rear axles and idler spring arms to solve disc brake mount, axle creep and drive-train alignment issues, but even those with some wheel base adjustment simply don’t give you much compared to the width of our large “drop-slot” — without the dangling idler and the excess chain. Our integrated disc caliper mount, stainless (or optional titanium) chain ring style slider bolts and “drop-saver” frame washers, and integrated 4mm tensioner screws make the Duster the most precise in BMX for achieving perfect chain alignment/tension and the easiest to remove and reinstall a rear wheel with no readjustment necessary. The definition of beautiful form and superior function!
TIGHT Q-FACTOR
The Duster is built around a standard BSA threaded 68mm bottom bracket shell to allow for extremly tight Q-factor and fit all the top mini/junior cranks. Our chain stays and bottom bracket have been optimized to be as versatile as possible for todays tight Q-factors. You’ll find plenty of crank, chainring, and tire clearance as you build your Duster frame into your dream bike.

We could have followed the trend towards modern and minimal — that would have been easy — but instead we embraced the heritage of the bicycle with an artisan head badge our customers rushed to embrace. And for many that embossed, antique silver badge of distinction is the most important part of their Daylight. As it should be.
SIZING – FIND THE PERFECT FIT
There are a lot of variables aside from height that go into choosing the perfect size frame such as riding style, weight, aggressiveness, etc. Because of this, there is a height range for each size on our charts. The key metric to actually fitting a frame is the reach. This is the horizontal distance from the center of the bottom bracket to the center top of the head tube. Top tube length, seat angle, and other dimensions have little to do with fit since you won’t be sitting down. All of the geomentry dimensions besides reach have to do with performance and ride quality, not rider size. As you compare frames for you or your child, keep the reach measurement foremost in your mind. Below is a full chart of the Daylight size offering.
